In the 10 years Sierra Ski News has been published, we've only been

cheated  three times. This page is dedicated to those advertisers who took

advantage of our good nature and decided they didn't want to pay for their ads.

We'll gladly remove them from this list if they finally decide to pay us! Until then

we encourage our readers not to do business with these people.

2009-10 SEASON

PARK TAHOE INN (So. Lake Tahoe, Calif.) - Park Tahoe Inn was a new advertiser for 2009-10. They advertised in the December 2009 and January 2010 issues. Despite promises that Sierra Ski News would be paid, as of July 26, they have not done this. When Park Tahoe Inn's advertising bill originally became overdue and we sent a reminder, we were told there were no funds to pay for the ads. We inquired, "Why were the ads approved if there were no funds to pay for them?" In March we were told we had been scheduled for payment in June.  In early June we checked with their management company Jolie Quest Hotels & Resorts to see if we were still on schedule and we were told "hopefully by mid month." June came and went and still no payment. Three emails to Jolie Quest  in July have gone unanswered. It's becoming obvious they have no intention of paying us or they would have at least communicated back to us that they are having problems. A fourth email was sent July 26 to the Director of Hotel Operations, as well as President of the company with no response.

THE BACK COUNTRY (Truckee, Calif.) - The Back Country had advertised with us for several years. As part of this season's four-ad deal, the owner said we could run stories from his web page. Everything went great for the December and January issues, but then we evidently picked the wrong story to run in February and in a series of profanity-laced emails he told us he wouldn't pay for his ads. The owner said the story -- partially dealing with backcountry skiers getting parking tickets -- was old and people weren't supposed to see it. We asked then, "Why is it on your web page?" As of 3/23/10 it's still there. Go HERE and scroll down to Rubicon Peak. Since the owner of this store was already past due for his January ad, it's more likely he was looking for an excuse not to pay us for January or February. We highly recommend not doing business at this store. Non-payment aside, we've gone in the store several times just to check things out. We were either treated rudely or totally ignored by the employees who seemed to be more concerned with talking amongst themselves than helping customers. We do not condone thievery in any fashion, but is this any different than if we went into his store and stole merchandise? So why does he think it's OK not to pay us?

2008-09 SEASON

ICER AIR (San Francisco, Calif.) - Icer Air took out a full page ad in our Oct./Nov. 2008 Issue and also received a front page story. After the event -- they disappeared. From what we understand no one got paid -- including the invited athletes. There are many stories on the Internet about it. Check them out: ESPN, Cyrus Is Board, Transworld Business to name only a few. We took a big hit on this one. A full page ad pays for a big chunk of the cost of one issue.
