ONE LAST HURRAH FOR BOREAL

DONNER SUMMIT, Calif. (July 9, 2010) - Boreal Mountain Resort is spinning a chairlift in July 10th and 11th for skiers and snowboarders to enjoy summer snow.
This weekend Boreal Mountain Resort will run the Castle Peak Quad chairlift granting access to a ribbon of snow left behind after the record setting snowfall Boreal saw this spring. “Almost 500 inches of snow fell this winter, with several feet falling after Boreal closed. We decided since all this snow was on the mountain, it would be fun to enjoy it for a couple days in July,” said Jon Slaughter, Boreal Marketing Director. “It’s a novelty to be able to ski in the summer. Something worth celebrating,” Slaughter added. Boreal will provide a terrain park on one trail. Barbeque and beverages are available. Bring sunscreen and a hearty appetite for snow.
Boreal Mountain Resort will be open from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm on July 10th and 11th. Lift tickets will cost $20 for all ages and 2010/2011 season pass will be accepted. Season passes will also be on sale for a little as $129. More information can be found on Boreal’s website, www.rideboreal.com

SQUAW VALLEY, Calif. (July 2, 2010) - Squaw Valley’s renowned mountain bike park will re-open on July 16, 2010 for the first time in almost a decade. Lake Tahoe’s legendary mountain bike park is back in action, with over twelve miles of dedicated downhill single track and mountaintop cross-country trails. The bike park will be open Friday through Sunday from 10:40am to 7pm starting July 16 to August 21, 2010—remaining open through mid-September with an adjusted schedule.

Previously the venue for the Mountain Bike World Cup, the Fat Tire Festival and Downhill Mania events, Squaw Valley’s bike park crew has worked tirelessly to increase the flow of the trails and incorporate more freeride elements using the mountain’s natural terrain. Bikers can access the bike park via Squaw Valley’s scenic Cable Car for $39 a day for adults and $22 a day for kids 12 and under.
“Squaw Valley’s terrain lends itself to exceptional downhill mountain biking,” said Kyle Crezee, Squaw Valley’s Director of Human Development and the organizer of the bike park. Crezee continues, “Specifically, the ‘Moab-style’ granite formations provide smooth and unique trails unlike anywhere else in the world.”
Squaw Valley offers the longest lift-served trail in Lake Tahoe, which takes bikers from High Camp, el. 8200’, all the way down to the mountain’s base at 6200'. The trail’s name, Thunder Mountain Trail, derives from the famous, twisting rollercoaster that Walt Disney modeled after Squaw Valley’s distinct rock formations.
Squaw Valley is also opening three intermediate cross-country trails on top of the mountain. Bikers can enjoy scenic loops through fields of wildflowers with views overlooking Lake Tahoe and the Sierra peaks. The trails vary in length and pitch to offer something for every rider.
To accommodate bikers, Squaw Valley has also opened a brand new bike rental shop located at the base of the mountain. Open daily, Squaw Valley Bike Rentals is renting downhill and park bikes as well as comfort cruisers for use on the scenic Truckee River Bike Path. Helmets, body armor and other safety equipment are also available for rent.

Mountain Biking - This summer brings the much anticipated return of mountain biking to Squaw Valley USA. With the most vertical of any bike park in Tahoe, Squaw Valley will offer a downhill trail with freeride elements and cross-country trails. Bikers can ride Squaw’s scenic Cable Car to access the terrain by purchasing a day bike ticket. Mountain biking is slated to open mid to late summer depending on snow melt conditions.
To accommodate bikers, Squaw Valley is also opening a new bike rental shop at the base of the mountain. Starting June 12, the shop will rent downhill bikes and trail bikes as well as comfort cruisers for use on the renowned Truckee River Bike Path. Safety gear, attachable trail-a-bikes and trailers for children will also be available for rent.
Paintball

Paintball, the sport rapidly sweeping the nation, is coming to Squaw Valley this summer. Squaw Valley’s paintball arena will open at High Camp, Squaw’s mountaintop oasis for summer activities. Paintball will be open daily starting mid-summer, and semi-automatic paintball guns, masks and safety equipment will be available for rent on-site. Open to the general public, Squaw Valley’s paintball will also be available for parties, corporate events and team building exercises.

Bike rentals will be available for both kids and adults, and attachable trailers and trail-a-bikes will be available for small children.
“I think the addition of the bike shop will bring a lot to Squaw Valley. Squaw is such a great place to be all year long, and now guests will have the opportunity to explore it for themselves on two wheels,” said Roy Hage, Bike Shop Manager.
Located on one of America’s most renowned Class 1 bike trails, Squaw Valley USA has access to some of the best trail biking in the country.
